We are grateful to the Yeshurun Synagogue for choosing Jewish Blind & Disabled (JBD) for your Kol Nidrei Appeal this year. We appreciate you taking a moment to read about our charity.
JBD supports Jewish adults 18+ living with physical disabilities and/or sight loss to live independently, with dignity and choice. Through its seven accessible housing developments across London, Hertfordshire and Essex, as well as a growing range of community services for people living in their own homes, JBD helps people to live a rich, full life.
JBD's adapted apartments remove the barriers that people with physical disabilities or sight loss can face when living in unsuitable housing. Across its developments, tenants benefit from 24/7 onsite support, providing reassurance and peace of mind that there is always a helping hand when needed. JBD's Community Engagement Team helps tenants create vibrant, welcoming Jewish communities in their buildings, while its Tenancy Support Team provide guidance on benefits, aids and adaptations, and emotional wellbeing.
Not everyone needs to move into a JBD apartment. For those who don’t wish to live in a JBD development, there are a growing range of services JBD brings to the wider community, helping people remain safe, independent and connected in their own homes. These include home-based assessments through JBD's Occupational Therapy Service and Sight Loss Support Service, which provide advice and recommendations on aids, adaptations and technologies to make everyday life easier. People are also brought together through friendly groups where those living with sight loss or multiple sclerosis can share experiences, build friendships and support one another.
Whether in its developments or in the wider community, JBD's aim is simple: to help people stay safe, independent and confident, enabling them to thrive.
